Environmental Finance Award Win

Award

We are delighted to announce that our ground-breaking report, The Sovereign Transition to Sustainability: Understanding the Dependence of Sovereign Debt on Nature, exploring the dependence of a country’s sovereign debt on the management of its stocks of natural resources (known as “natural capital”) has been named “ESG Innovation of the Year (Research)”, by Environmental Finance in its 2020 Sustainable Investment Awards.

Researched and written through a collaboration between Planet Tracker and the London School of Economic (LSE)’s Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment, the report provides the first framework for factoring natural capital risk into sovereign debt analysis to enable market participants to integrate the value of natural capital into the issuance, analysis and stewardship of sovereign bonds.

The report, co-authored by Alexandra Pinzon and Nick Robins at LSE, with Matt McLuckie and Gabriel Thoumi at Planet Tracker, was launched in February 2020 to a specially-invited audience of investors, asset managers and financial media, and is the first in a series that will aim to understand the relationship between natural capital and the future prospects for sovereign bonds.
